Matt Cook

Place of birth: I was born and raised in Arlington, TX. A footnote to my life is that I was delivered by former Arlington mayor Robert Cluck.

Family: My wonderful spouse and best friend is Joanna Cook (formerly Bass). Children are Emery Grace (11), Jackson Harris (7), and Sawyer Dean (4). I met Joanna on a ski trip with First Baptist Church of Arlington when we were in high school, but we didn’t start dating until after college.

Favorite hobby: Movies and baseball are my two favorite hobbies.

First concert ever attended: Sadly my first concert was Ty Herndon at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth with my mom. The first concert I attended for actual musical interest was Garbage in Nacogdoches. Another footnote to my life is that I’ve seen U2 in concert 12 times.

Favorite verse and why: I don’t know that I have a favorite, but I try to live by Colossians 3:12 on a daily basis.

Favorite food: My favorite food is C19 from Peking Chinese Restaurant in Nacogdoches, which is General Tso’s Chicken. I also enjoy a medium rare steak.

Most embarrassing moment: When reading this question out loud to my wife, she frowned, shook her head, and said, “You don’t ever get embarrassed.” The only one I can really think of is when I was in junior high school I was at a lock-in at a friend’s church and at the start of the evening we did a group prayer with the youth pastor, staff, and the 100+ kids in attendance. I was sitting next to the youth pastor as he was praying and the second after he said, “Amen,” I inadvertently released gas in a very loud and long audible way.

Random facts: I can fit through a plastic coat hanger.
